Pristina Court extended Sladjan Trajkovic's custody for another 2 months
The Basic Court in Pristina extended the measure of custody for another two months for the former member of the Kosovo Police, Sladjan Trajkovic, who is charged by the prosecution in Pristina with the criminal offense of war crimes, his lawyer Dejan Vasic confirmed for Kosovo Online.
Vasic notes that from the start of the proceedings, the defense had strong arguments to replace the prison term with house arrest.
"First and foremost, because of his health condition, but also, on the other hand, because of the practice of the Kosovo courts thus far, where a milder measure was determined for the residents of Kosovo compared to the strictest measure of judicial custody, I have so far presented all the cases to the court and the prosecutor's office on several occasions, which, with a milder measure, enabled the process to proceed smoothly," Vasic explained.
Vasic states that the fact that he has not received a single word from the court or the prosecution frustrates both him and his client.
"We have entered the third month since the beginning of the process, and no one has answered a single word to the arguments that I presented in support of my client. This situation is becoming frustrating for my client and me because everything we do seems to be in vain. As if no one sees it, as if it were not said, my six-page response to the request is as if no one has read it, as if no one has read even one of my complaints. No one addresses the appeal allegations and these arguments," Vasic described the situation that he and his client are in.
He says that even the government of the Republic of Serbia provided guarantees for Trajkovic, but there was no response to that either.
"Last time, we attached the guarantees that the government of the Republic of Serbia gave and which committed itself that if Sladjan Trajkovic finds himself in the territory of the Republic of Serbia, he will be extradited to Kosovo at the request of EULEX, which is impossible to happen because he would respect the measure of house arrest. Neither the prosecution nor the court said a single word, and we will now see what will happen with the Court of Appeals. I will go to see Sladjan today, and I hope that this stress will not further damage his health. He is a fighter, and I am sure that we will prove his innocence to the end and that we will manage to save him from certain death and enable him to be treated at the Health Center in Kosovska Mitrovica," Vasic said.
