Lajcak after the meeting with Kurti: We expected more understanding

The EU Special Envoy for dialogue between Kosovo and Serbia, Miroslav Lajcak, called the meeting with Prime Minister Albin Kurti open and honest but added that the meeting had not been easy and that the international delegation had expected more understanding for the proposals it had presented, Koha reports.

Lajcak added that the focus of the talks had been on the European proposal for the normalization of relations between Kosovo and Serbia.

"We came with a strong delegation consisting of the EU, the US, and high representatives of France, Germany, and Italy, which is a signal that we are committed to the normalization of relations. All these powers strongly stood behind it. The meeting aimed to discuss the proposal on normalization which we presented in September, and then in December. The meeting lasted more than two hours, which in itself shows that it was not easy, it was long but open and honest," Lajcak said.

Lajcak added that it was too early for "dramatic statements" because the delegation was in the middle of its mission, which it would continue in Belgrade.

"But we expected a better understanding of the possibilities offered by this proposal. I hope that we will reach a full understanding and use all the potentials offered by the proposal," Lajcak said.

The meeting was also attended by the US Special Envoy for the Western Balkans, Gabriel Escobar, as well as the Foreign Policy and Security Adviser of Germany, Jens Plotner, the French President's Envoy, Emmanuel Bonne, and the Italian Prime Minister's Foreign Policy and Security Adviser, Francesco Talo.
