Maliqi: America does not want to put up with Kurti's arrogance anymore

Political affairs expert Shkelzen Maliqi, on the occasion of today's meeting about the CSM at the US Embassy in Pristina, said that the current situation was unenviable for Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti, but also for Kosovo, Indeks Online reports.

According to him, Kurti was trying to develop a "sovereignist" policy.

"It is his own fault that he is in such a position because he has been trying to develop a "sovereignist" policy for a long time by persistently taking political measures that produced successive crises in the middle of 2022, all without coordination with the US and Western partners, even openly rejecting Washington's demands to give Western diplomacy time to prepare the conditions for reaching an advanced agreement between Kosovo and Serbia. Kurti always showed his own ideas about the process, and the US listened, but not completely, only when his policy failed or brought the situation to the brink of armed conflicts in the north of Kosovo. Washington is no longer ready to tolerate the obstructions of Prime Minister Kurti, and the political and civil society factors were invited to the meeting, who are ready to talk about fulfilling the international obligation of the Government of Kosovo, which is the creation of the Community." Maliqi said.

According to him, the administration of US President Joe Biden had shown enough patience, for which he said "Kurti's arrogance".

He adds that the issue of the Kosovo-Serbia agreement is important for the stabilization of the region and that the US assessed the discussion as a necessary consultation with the entire political spectrum of Kosovo, which would be held without Kurti.

"Even President Osmani decided to send someone from her cabinet to the meeting, while Kurti made only one conclusion, surprisingly, that had not even been invited to this conversation. I think that Kurt is making a big mistake. American mediator Derek Chollet published an author's article yesterday about the Community, which clearly shows that the competencies and functions of the community do not threaten the Republic of Kosovo. Tomorrow's meeting, I believe, will clarify Kurti's fundamentally autistic policy. After this meeting, he will have the last opportunity to join the process and contribute to reaching an agreement with Serbia, which he said that was improving the position of Kosovo," he emphasized.

Asked about the possibility of overthrowing the government and new elections, Maliqi said that if a wide front was created against Kurti and the government lost room for maneuver, it would be a fairer decision to call elections and see if Kurti still had the support of the citizens.

"I don't want to speculate, but it will be an own goal by Kurti anyway.
