Molliqaj: The Franco-German proposal is not good; the agreement on license plates is the catalyst for the CSM

The Social Democratic Party President Dardan Molliqaj stated that he was against the Franco-German proposal because it did not include mutual recognition with Serbia, Ekonomia online portal reported.

Molliqaj added that the issue of license plates, which Kurti insisted on, was actually supposed to obscure something completely different.

"All of Kurti's attempts to establish reciprocity or legality for issuing RKS (Republic of Kosovo) license plates are his attempt to cover up the compromise he made, which is that the Kosovo Government accepted the Franco-German proposal that does not include recognition. It was clear to us that this was a political maneuver and that it will end like that," Molliqaj said.

That proposal does not lead to a final agreement with Serbia, as he said, and it returns Kosovo to the starting point.

"The agreement is not only about license plates, the agreement speeds up the process for an agreement like the Franco-German plan, which is unacceptable for us because it is not a final solution and continues the conflict between Kosovo and Serbia. It is also important that Kurti's government is again advocating for the implementation of all previous agreements. Until now Kurti declared that these agreements were the legacy of the previous governments, but since last night Kosovo and the new government have taken over the old obligations and made them their own. So from now on, the Government is responsible for the implementation of the agreement that is as harmful as the Community of Serb-majority Municipalities (CSM)," Molliqaj said.

According to him, a sustainable solution can only be the correction of borders.

"We believe that there should be a permanent solution with Serbia. We are not the ones who say that there should be no compromise and dialogue, there should be, but in the function of a final agreement. The most stable and long-term solution for us is the redefinition of the borders. It is clear that the citizens of Serbia in the north don't want to live in Kosovo and think they are not part of Kosovo. We also think that the Albanians in the 'valley' expressed their will to unite with Kosovo many years ago. Yes, we are in favor of redefining the borders based on the will of the citizens of Kosovo," Molliqaj said.

Molliqaj stressed that the agreement on license plates was a catalyst for the Community of Serb-majority Municipalities and added that the Serbs would not return to the institutions without the CSM establishment.

"As you saw in the last agreement, it was included that all agreements must be honored. Without that concession by Prime Minister Kurti, there is no agreement for the Serbs to return to the institutions. You even saw the statement of Serbian President Vucic where he said the Serbs would return to institutions only when the CSM was formed. So, the license plates were definitely the catalyst for the CSM," Molliqaj underlined.
