Coordinator of the Department of Justice within the Cabinet for Good Governance of the Democratic Party of Kosovo, Perparim Gruda, said today that the dismissal of the head of the Special Investigations Unit, Shemsi Haziri, is a pure political intervention by the government. As he added, the Government aims to intimidate independent investigators in the Kosovo Police, reports Koha.

At the press conference, Gruda said that the Special Investigations Unit is conducting investigations against Kosovo's ambassador to Croatia, Martin Berishaj, and the former head of the Kosovo Energy Corporation, Nagip Krasniqi, and assessed that the government aims to prevent investigations of other government and party officials of the Self-Determination Movement.

"The dismissal of the director of the Special Investigation Unit shows that this Government wants to protect its people who are under investigation for corruption at all costs, and they do so by interfering in an unacceptable way in the investigation process. This dismissal explains the real reason and motives why Prime Minister Kurti and the government attacked the state prosecutor with such brutality a few days after the arrest of Nagip Krasniqi," said Gruda.

On behalf of the PRK, he called on the government of Kosovo to give up political interference in the work of the authorities that conduct investigations and to open the way to clarifying this affair.

"To be clear, there is no force that can close the corruption affair of Martin Bershaj and Nagip Krasniqi. The citizens of Kosovo will sooner or later find out the truth about this corruption scandal," he said.

Gruda also mentioned the dismissal of the Director of Economic Crime in the Kosovo Police, Musli Salihu, saying that it was not the first time that the police officer who led the investigation against Martin Berishaj was dismissed.
