Radojevic: The decision to open the bridge on the Ibar can only be made by Serbs
The former mayor of North Mitrovica, Milan Radojevic, said that the decision to reopen the bridge on the Ibar could only be made by the Serbs who, as he stated, had paid a high price to survive in the north of Kosovo.
Radojevic stated on Instagram that after 1999, North Mitrovica remained the only urban area in which the majority were Serbs.
"A high price was paid for the defense of the city. From 1999 to 2013, there were over 1,000 attacks on the main city bridge from the direction of the southern part of Kosovska Mitrovica. Hundreds of Serbs were wounded in those attacks, and several of our fellow citizens lost their lives defending the city and the north," said Radojevic.
As he pointed out, freedom of movement in North Mitrovica is not denied to anyone.
"Today's northern part of Kosovska Mitrovica is the only multi-ethnic area in Kosovo and Metohija with mixed settlements like Bosniak Mahala and Mikronaselje, where Serbs, Albanians, Bosniaks, Goranians live together, and freedom of movement is not denied to anyone. There are no Serbs in the southern part of Kosovska Mitrovica. To go to the cemetery and to church one goes only and exclusively under police escort," added Radojevic.
He emphasized that the decision to open the bridge over the Ibar could only be made by Serbs.
"The decision on the possible opening of the main city bridge can only be made by the Serbs, the citizens of Kosovska Mitrovica and the north, who paid a high price so that the Serbs would remain living in the northern part of Kosovska Mitrovica, but also in other municipalities in the north. No one else can make that decision on behalf of ourselves," said Radojevic.
