A Serb arrested at Jarinje placed under house arrest, accused without grounds, no weapons found even in pictures
Lawyer Asdren Hoxha stated today that his client L.J. from Zvecan, who had been arrested at Jarinje on October 1 when he had been going to the funeral of Stefan Nedeljkovic, had been placed under house arrest for one month, and he also mentioned that the Kosovo Police had not found any weapons in the house or on the property of the Serb from Zvecan, only old photos where L.J. was holding a weapon that had turned out to be not real.
Gazmend Hoxha, the director of the Kosovo Police, said on the day of the arrest that the police had found weapons and ammunition on the property of the Serb from Zvecan and that the arrest might be related to the events in Banjska.
Lawyer Asdren Hoxha pointed out that L.J. was charged with carrying weapons without permission, even though the police had not found any weapons during the search, however, he said, his client was charged based on pictures in which he was carrying weapons that had later determined not to be real.
"We attended a hearing at the request of the Prosecutor's Office to determine the measure of detention for my client L.J. A hearing was held, and after the defense's presentation, the Prosecutor's Office changed its decision to detention and replaced it with house arrest. They agreed to impose house arrest as a measure, so we, in order to maintain peace and proceed with the further procedure, agreed with that decision," Hoxha said.
He expressed satisfaction that the measure of detention had been replaced with house arrest since, as he said, there was no basis to restrict L.J.'s freedom.
"I believe it is necessary to tell you that there was no weapon to seize with my client. A search was conducted in his apartment, and no weapons were found, nothing of his was unlawfully confiscated. It is about some old pictures where he is seen with some weapons, and we managed to explain that they are not real weapons. When we opposed it with evidence, the Prosecutor's Office agreed that this person does not need to be detained, which we are essentially satisfied with," Hoxha said.
The Kosovo Police arrested a Serb from Zvecan at Jarinje on October 1, after which the director of the Kosovo Police, Gazmend Hoxha, addressed the public. He said then at a press conference that one person had been arrested at Jarinje who was suspected of being involved in the incident that occurred on September 24.
Hoxha stated then that a raid had been carried out on his property in Jarinje and that a certain amount of ammunition had been found during that occasion.
"Today, an arrest was made at Jarinje, the police entered his property and found weapons and ammunition. I believe that he will be detained for 48 hours. There is a possible connection with the event on September 24," he said.
