Serb List: Our MPs will be able to participate in the legislative process through parliamentary committees
The Serb List parliamentary group said that, following the appointment of its MPs to all parliamentary committees alongside members of other parliamentary groups, they would now be able to monitor and participate in the legislative process, something they had previously been prevented from doing.
“After several unsuccessful attempts, as of today Serb List MPs will serve on all parliamentary committees, enabling them to have insight into and the right to participate in the legislative process and to submit appropriate proposals, something they were prevented from doing in the previous period,” reads a statement posted on Instagram by Serb List MP Igor Simic.
The statement adds that participation in parliamentary committees is a right enjoyed by MPs from all parliamentary groups.
“However, for the first time, through various maneuvers, this right was denied to Serb List MPs as the legal and legitimate representatives of the Serbian people,” the statement adds.
At today’s session, the Kosovo Assembly approved the replacement and reappointment of members of parliamentary committees with 63 votes in favor, none against and one abstention.
At the previous three sessions at which the matter was on the agenda, the Self-Determination Movement did not vote in favor of appointing Serb List members to parliamentary committees. At the previous session, the item was withdrawn from the agenda on the grounds that changes would be made to the composition of the parliamentary committees.
