Todic with the commander of the American KFOR: Life is paralyzed; we are not safe while the Special Forces are there
The member of the presidency of the Serb List, Slavko Simic, and the former mayor of the municipality of Leposavic, Zoran Todic, spoke with the commander of the American KFOR, to whom they again conveyed the demands that the special unit of the Kosovo Police withdraw and that the newly elected mayor Lulzim Hetemi leave the municipality building, where he has been since yesterday.
Todic pointed out that the Serbs gathered in front of the municipal building did not want any incidents, but only to ensure their smooth work in their institutions.
"Life in Leposavic has stopped; they came here with the use of force. They can go, so that we can return to normal life," Todic told the American KFOR commander, who replaced the Italian contingent in front of the Leposavic municipality building this morning.
Todic told the KFOR commander that life in Leposavic was paralyzed, that nothing was working, and when it came to citizens and institutions, schools, public companies, and health institutions are not working.
"All those institutions are directly related to the functioning of our municipality. No one can exercise their right because this building is not working. Employees in this building are not at their workplaces," Todic said.
He cited the example that there were five employees in this institution who were eligible for retirement this year and emphasized that after 40 years of work, they could not be in their jobs today.
"Our request has not changed since yesterday; we ask that the people who are in the building leave the building so that the employees can go to their workplaces. We have nothing personal against the gentleman who is in the building, let him go to the three Albanian villages where he was voted in, there are conditions there to perform the function, and we will do everything here that we have been doing all this time. It is not right to implement some unreasonable and anti-Serb decisions with the use of force. This man is not welcome; he does not represent the Serbs. the Serbs showed that in those quasi-elections that were held on April 23, in which they did not participate," Todic stated.
He said that in the municipality of Leposavic, the Serbs lived as the majority population, Albanians in three villages, Gorani people, Bosniaks, and Roma people and those only residents of three Albanian villages had participated part in those elections.
The commander of KFOR said that they wanted everything to end with dialogue and that they would convey the concerns and demands that the Serbs had expressed to the mayor and that they hope that everything would be resolved in a peaceful way. He stated that they were also present in order to prevent the situation from escalating as happened in Zvecan and to act as a mediator in order to reach a peaceful solution.
"We do not need any incidents, and we require you to work in accordance with the mandate, which is safety and freedom for all residents. We are not safe here today. The safety of our population is at risk here, our children do not attend school, they do not go to kindergarten. We don't need that," Todic said.
The KFOR commander agreed and said that he did not want a repeat of the situation from yesterday.
Todic underlined once again that none of the people gathered, supported any kind of violence, but that they were asking KFOR to ensure that the Serbs could work - basic human rights.
"These people do not trust the Kosovo police services. There is a solution; you are the ones who should ensure that these people live normally. As long as the special Kosovo police are there, we do not feel safe," Todic said.
As reported by Kosovo Online reporters, the negotiation between the Serb representatives and KFOR continue.
