Banjska residents: People are leaving, children are in fear because of the Kosovo Police special units
Residents of Banjska, two months after the conflict in this area, say that the situation is somewhat better than it was at the end of September but that there is a constant fear, especially among children, due to the presence of special units of the Kosovo Police.
"It's a little better than it was. However, we have lost population. Many people have left. I'm not afraid for myself, but I'm afraid for the children. I have grandchildren here, and I fear for them. They are afraid too because vehicles are constantly moving around, whether it's EULEX, KFOR, ROSU, or special forces, they circulate non-stop, and children are scared. If a mother can't calm her child, she just says, 'here comes the police,' and it calms down. Then you can imagine how it is," one resident says.
Another resident of Banjska expresses concern for the youth and the fact that many of them are leaving Kosovo.
"We've been having a very hard time. I live about three kilometers from here. They were passing through, overturning trucks with wood and blocking the roads in three or four places. I'm not afraid, you know why? Nothing will change for the old ones. I'm afraid for the young people. Half of them fled, many went to Serbia from here. Even the spa is not working. What can we hope for? It's a bit easier, better, but I worry because this issue around municipalities cannot be resolved; there's nowhere to go for anything," he says.
