Barricades in north Kosovo have been removed, two trucks set on fire remain near Dudin Krs
All the barricades in north Kosovo have been removed, as Kosovo Online finds, except for two trucks at the barricade near the Dudin Krs in North Mitrovica, which were set on fire in the night between Wednesday and Thursday.
The removal of the barricades began yesterday after the Serbs' representatives spoke with Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic, who told them that they had received firm guarantees that the people from the barricades would not be persecuted and that the Kosovo Security Force could not go to northern Kosovo without the permission of the KFOR commander.
The conversation between the Serbian President and the Kosovo Serbs' representatives was preceded by Pristina's Basic Court decision from two days ago that the arrested former Kosovo Police member, Dejan Pantic, should be transferred to house arrest until the end of the court proceedings.
Pantic was arrested by the Kosovo police in Jarinje on December 10, on charges that he participated in an attack on the premises of the Municipal Election Commission in North Mitrovica. After that arrest, Serbs from northern Kosovo protested and set up barricades on the northern Kosovo main roads.
Barricades were set up in Rudare near Zvecan, Ibarska Slatina, and Lesak, not far from Leposavic, Severna Mitrovica, and Zubin Potok.
After the barricades were set up, the Kosovo police closed the Jarinje and Brnjak administrative crossings.
The Serbs spent 19 days at the barricades before it was agreed yesterday with President Vucic that they should be removed.
