Peaceful protests in the north enter the 23rd day, Serbs disappointed by the world's silence on the violence of Pristina
Today, peaceful protests continued in Leposavic, Zvecan, and Zubin Potok due to the violent actions of Pristina, the presence of Kosovo Special Forces in municipal buildings, the imposition of illegitimate Albanian mayors, and the unjustified arrests and beatings of Serbs, including children.
According to reporters from Kosovo Online, there is great disappointment among those gathered that no one from the international community has spoken out about the incident in Zitkovac, near Zvecan, where members of the Kosovo police intimidated and assaulted two minors, even three days after the incident.
Further unrest among Serbs in the north is caused by the fact that despite demands for the withdrawal of Kosovo Special Forces from the north, arrests of Serbs have continued in recent days, and there has been a noticeable increase in the presence of Kosovo police members patrolling predominantly Serbian-populated municipalities in armored vehicles with long guns.
The recent arrest of another fellow resident, Uros Vukasinovic, who was detained by plainclothes Kosovo police officers on his way to work, has added to the anxiety of those gathered in front of the municipal building in Leposavic.
There is still a significant number of KFOR soldiers stationed in front of the municipal building, who have increased their presence since Kosovo's Minister of Infrastructure, Elbert Krasniqi, visited the new mayor, Lulzim Hetemi, on June 16. Hetemi received only 100 votes in the elections and has not left the building for over three weeks. The municipal building in Leposavic is currently secured by Hungarian KFOR soldiers.
The ongoing uncertainty, arrests, harassment of children, and tears of concerned mothers further worry the Leposavic citizens, who wonder what awaits them in the coming days.
Yesterday, the Serbs from the north held rallies and walks in support of the Serbs who were recently arrested by the Kosovo Police. They sent messages from these gatherings expressing their desire for peace and for the "terror of Albin Kurti to be stopped."
