Brankovic: Some countries don't even know that they have recognized Kosovo, Serbia should continue with the action of derecognition

Retired Ambassador Branko Brankovic says that after the names of the countries that withdrew recognition of Kosovo in the previous period were announced, Serbia should continue with the action of derecognition and send its emissaries to Latin America, Asia and Africa.

"It would be advisable to at least send emissaries to Latin America, Asia and Africa to present Serbia's views, because there are other countries there that have recognized Kosovo, and many unfortunately do not know that they have done so. Many countries that previously recognized Kosovo, checking the documents, they said that they did not even know that there was recognition. Secondly, we should not be fooled that the USA and all those who bombed us will give up their actions to put pressure on the countries that recognized Kosovo, economically and politically, so that they would not do the same as these nine which will certainly be criticized for it. That wave of pressure will certainly be expected because day after day the countries that bombed us try to find some kind of excuse to justify the bombing, and it eludes them, especially with these confessions" Brankovic says for Kosovo Online.

The increase in the number of countries that do not recognize Kosovo, as assessed by Brankovic, can be a kind of psychological influence within the Council of Europe, UNESCO, Interpol..., organizations that Kosovo aspires to join.

"These requests for membership are a political performance by the USA, Great Britain and Germany in order not to divert attention from the Ukrainian problem. Pristina must constantly submit requests for membership, but every attempt that fails is a great political embarrassment for the one who failed, and that is not the case here with Kosovo as it is already a disgrace to those who are pushing it, namely the USA and a part of the EU”,
says our interlocutor.

As he adds, Prishtina was ordered to submit an application for EU membership, although it is known that there is nothing to be gained from that, because it is known that there are five countries in the EU that have not recognized Kosovo's independence.

"And they will not do that because each of them has their own Kosovo and they will not play with it. But for now, it seems that we have gone much further in our performance for derecognition than those who work on behalf of Pristina and that they are losing positions. As things develop in Ukraine, where it is evident that the USA and a part of the EU are pushing Ukraine into ruin in a conflict with the Russians, there will be more and more countries that will think carefully about what it means to recognize the independence of a breakaway part of any UN member state by force. Especially before Russia took the southeastern part of Ukraine, it is a great power. And everyone will say: something like that can happen to us too. That's why I expect that what is happening in Ukraine will be an additional plus in the thinking of the countries that recognized Kosovo to retract the decision," concludes Brankovic.

The President of Serbia, Aleksandar Vucic, said last night that as things stood currently in the world, even 106 countries did not recognize Kosovo's independence, that only 84 unequivocally recognized it and that three countries "are not clear". He also published a list of countries that withdrew recognition in the past period: Somalia, Burkina Faso, Gabon, Eswatini, Libya, Guinea, Antigua and Barbuda, Saint Lucia and the Maldives, and announced that a tenth is expected.

The Assembly of Kosovo, let's recall, adopted the Declaration of Independence on February 17, 2008. That same day, Kosovo received its first recognition from Costa Rica, and the next day from America, France, Afghanistan, Albania, Turkey and Great Britain.

The first country to withdraw its recognition of Kosovo was Suriname in October 2017, and for two years, since Israel recognized Kosovo, there have been no new recognitions.
