Demaku: By electing Citaku as president, Self-Determination would commit political suicide

Analyst Armend Demaku believes that the Self-Determination Movement would not accept the Secretary General of the Democratic Party of Kosovo, Vlora Citaku, as the new President of Kosovo.

Demaku told Kosovo Online that if Self-Determination were to accept Citaku as president, it would abandon its twenty-year political stance.

“I do not think that the Self-Determination Movement would accept Vlora Citaku being elected as president. On the other hand, I have no information whether the Democratic Party of Kosovo has such a nomination. However, I believe that the Self-Determination Movement is oriented and interested in going to elections again, even to be sacrificed in order to blame the opposition parties, and then proceed to elections. If Self-Determination accepted the candidacy of Vlora Citaku, their political project of the past 20 years would collapse,” our interlocutor said.

According to him, this is because Kosovo Prime Minister and Self-Determination leader Albin Kurti has built his entire political career by criticizing and polarizing society against the Democratic Party of Kosovo.

“That would be political suicide for the Self-Determination Movement, however, it would not be surprising if it made concessions. Albin Kurti does not do that because of the populism that characterizes him,” Demaku added.

Regarding the election of the president, Demaku believes it is a major problem for Kosovo.

“If Albin Kurti wants, he can elect a president within 10 minutes and there is no need to go to the polls. It remains to be seen how this will be done,” Demaku concluded.
