Haradinaj: Self-Determination wants Haxhiu to be acting president and is therefore delaying talks

The leader of the Alliance for the Future of Kosovo, Ramush Haradinaj, is convinced that the Self-Determination Movement is deliberately delaying the issue of electing a president so that the position can be taken over in an acting capacity by the Speaker of Parliament, Albulena Haxhiu, Koha reported.

Speaking to journalists ahead of today’s parliamentary session, Haradinaj said there had been no progress regarding the election of a new president.

“It seems that Self-Determination has a plan. It is important for them that the Speaker of the Assembly also becomes acting president of Kosovo. They are not in a hurry, and after April 5, we will see what happens. We depend on their initiative, because the opposition does not have the ability to take the initiative on such an issue. Of the 34 days, 10 have already passed, and it is clear that this is linked to the date when the current president’s mandate ends, and Haxhiu becomes acting president,” Haradinaj said.

On March 25, the Constitutional Court issued a decision giving lawmakers a 34-day deadline to elect a new president. Otherwise, the Assembly of Kosovo will be dissolved, and early elections will be held within 45 days.
